Me Too gets talked about as a reaction to Trump’s first election in quasi-psychoanalytic terms, like it was a repressed confrontation with an unreachable, displaced enemy. But you could also see it as a very straightforward and conscious retort to Trumpism’s professed values!

Sad to announce that Danzig Counseling Services, a small business near where my in-laws live in Maine and one of the great unrealized comedy sketch ideas, has closed. In my heart, the idea of pursuing a psychoanalytic journey alongside Jersey's own surly metal homunculus is very much still alive.

my psychoanalytic read here is literally just gender: the right is perceived as male (reactive, righteously angry, never responsible for their anger) and the left as female (shrill, annoying, the source of wickedness, responsible for the moral failings of men)

my psychoanalytic read here is literally just gender: the right is perceived as male (reactive, righteously angry, never responsible for their anger) and the left as female (shrill, annoying, the source of wickedness, responsible for the moral failings of men)
This level of basic naturalistic critique is unfortunately where we are still stuck. We need literary analysis. We need to borrow Orientalist, Feminist, Marxist, Psychoanalytic, Queer Theory and more theories from literary analysis. And then, maybe, we can find a new one that arises from games.

I read (a psychoanalytic take) recently that Americans need to grieve “middle class”. It had some truth to it. Not enough power analysis for my full liking but there is something to people need to accept the end of the post WWII economy & its religious hold on our imaginations & emotions.
I've been thinking something like this for a few months now. We will fight, we will resist, etc. But we will also not live the lives we picked out and planned on. They're not available anymore.
I’m going to be very honest and clear.
I am fully preparing myself to die under this new American regime. That’s not to say that it’s the end of the world. It isn’t. But I am almost 50 years old. It will take so long to do anything with this mess that this is the new normal for *me*.
