#ptrace
basically, LLMs and fucking *block ciphers* have been planning this for a while! because LLMs know how to do differential cryptanalysis on themselves. And now so do i! But i have to stop my own self or i can't debug myself, because i can't ptrace myself

Proxy wrappers that rely on LD_PRELOAD miss statically linked binaries, so graftcp traces socket syscalls with ptrace to force any Linux process through a SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy.

What's YAMA? Why does 1Password need a ptrace scope of 1 to display a file picker? WHO KNOWS 🤷‍♀️

How does that work, don't you need ptrace rights first?

@jonny sorry to reply to your old thread but I guess I hadn’t read through this one previously–do you know if ptrace and similar mechanisms are locked down in the container? If not, the “run a special binary as a user with privileges to the socket” doesn’t provide much real protection anyway.

Measure Bash script coverage with kcov. It uses ptrace to trace execution, records which lines run, and outputs HTML/XML reports. Enforce minimum thresholds in CI to catch untested paths.

Build dependency checks added just 0.3% overhead with mkcheck2, down from 148% with ptrace-based methods across 300 open-source projects. doi.org/hckmhh
Mkcheck2: A highly efficient and accurate approach for build dependency verification
Before users can interact with computer software, its source code must be converted into executable binaries and software packages, a task handled by specialized tools known as build systems.

It uses ptrace under the hood, the UI is a customized Perfetto UI, and it’s Linux only for now. It’s open source and I plan to keep working on it. If you have a build that annoys you, give it a try. I’d love to hear what you find.

CVE-2026-82474 - Sudo through 1.9.17p2 Intercept Policy Bypass via execveat
Sudo through 1.9.17p2 fails to apply intercept policy checks to the execveat system call in ptrace-based intercept mode. Users permitted to run specific commands can execute denied programs by calling execveat directly or through fexecve, bypassing policy enforcement and logging.

If you're bypassing a custom filter or building a sandbox, are you still relying on `seccomp` and `ptrace`, or have you fully migrated to eBPF for syscall intercept? What’s forcing the move in your stack? #infosec #linux

Built in surveillance detection: microphone activity monitor, instrumentation detection (Frida, ptrace, Xposed) with instant memory zeroisation, root detection, ADB and developer mode alerts, and key change warnings. Active protection, not just encryption.

This is further confirmed by the error message being for "ptrace". It's not a random word either. It's a "system call" (request to the UNIX OS) for taking over and controlling one program from another. You can imagine how that was useful here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptrace
