What copper does to a stairwell.

These stairs had new treads and nothing else: bare plywood, old glue, decades of paint. Now every riser and wall is copper, with bronze-toned trim on each tread.

What’s under the boat?

Puget Sound averages about 450 feet deep and drops to 930 at its deepest, off Point Jefferson near Kingston. A glacier 3,000 feet thick carved it about 15,000 years ago, and the tide at Tacoma still moves about 12 feet a day.
