PWAs couldn’t be more annoying to build

Rentrer les pwas dans les carreaux ?

building native apps that aren't compatible across devices is literally the most exclusive option.

every device has a browser, the duopoly has just built systems that make pwas less appealing bc it's more lucrative for them.
Why wouldn’t I want to have an app that no one realises they can install, doesn’t appear in the App Store, or in their App Library?

Exclusivity is cool 😎

Pas de pwas mais des carreaux... 😍😍😍

firefox already brought back pwas, at least on android and all desktop platforms.

Also, having used both, Google’s current implementation of PWAs on Android is worse than Apple’s

what if there was an app that lets you load pwas to make them better?

I swear without PWAs my jank ass debian phone wouldn't have apps.

Among all the problems that the industry has created for itself, bundling the product and the technology together as "AI" was such an avoidable mistake. Now it’s like your cantankerous uncle is showing up Thanksgiving dinner with really strong opinions about object-oriented programming or PWAs.

1/ Web dev: I find having to host PWAs publicly, limiting. How to distribute apps offline? Maybe:
1. A tool turns a directory with files into native (=natively installed) PWAs for multiple OSes.
2. Support for running archives as PWAs
3. Support for converting an archive to a native PWA (current OS)

It is a shame to hear @infrequently.org make so many great points about PWAs and browser diversity, knowing the state of affairs ten years on, though.

Definitely does not fit in with my instinct towards building static local first pwas that can edit and redeploy themselves without any kind of build step, thats for sure. 😆

PWAs can now do on-device speech recognition without a network.

Check the demo, where you can download language packs for offline, on-device recognition.

Supported in Chromium-based browsers and Firefox 160 (currently in beta).

All of this is true and yet I would still strongly encourage people to try to build PWAs whenever they can.

Apple’s App Store dominance is cracking in Europe and with as much as we have seen rea help people to build custom mods, the vendor lock-in era is over.

I love PWAs too, especially if they are built in a performant framework like Svelte ^^
October 29, 2026 at 4:25 PM
I think they can build in functionality to at least handle the issues many people have when using PWAs.

the android app launcher i've been using for probably like 8 years straight doesn't seem to support PWAs. that sucks

I explored how I can create a Progressive Web App #PWA using only vanilla JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

If you are curious too here is my full log of exploration.

Though it does seem like PWAs will be the way to go for these as the big platforms make it harder for kink apps to live on their stores.

Wish i had my PWAs though:<
