My take on PyGame was, as a wrapper over SDL1, it felt more like you were writing low-level C code than actual Python.

I felt Pyglet did a better job at a "Pythonic" API, but definitely not as well known.

So I've been thinking about replacing GearHead Caramel's PyGame backend with a Pyglet backend. There would be multiple advantages: smoother frame rate, hardware scaling and rotation, better text support. #ghrpg #GameDev #Python gearhead.itch.io/gearhead-car...

However, there would also be issues I'm not entirely sure how to correct right now. *If* I were to move to Pyglet, and *if* I were to use the Pyglet processing loop, this would break a whole lot of narrative code that relies on blocking functions to present a series of messages or dialogue.

3. They've also made it easy to load MJCF and other common specs used in robotics. They've also made visualization work out of the box (they hacked up a hybrid of pyrender, pyglet and LuisaRender with a ton of their own patches).

toying around with idea (robotron 2084 but it's re4 controls) built on the examples I give students for my class, only to spend an hour writing an input handler on top of pyglet and then going out and dropping the whole thing

If you ever decide to give pygame another try, though, hit me up and I'll give you pointers, as well as try my best to set your expectations correctly. There are also other awesome Python libs/frameworks like pyglet, arcade and Panda3D.

Hey, there! I’m also on the aspiring side of things. Used to do little things with Python when I was at uni 04-09 with pygame, pyglet, pandas3d. Started to work as a software dev and never quite got to pursue gamedev. Been learning Godot on and off lately but no project I’m dedicated to yet

I may switch GearHead Caramel's UI from PyGame to Pyglet. Pyglet can show videos as long as the computer has ffmpeg installed... so would it be terrible to add python_ffmpeg as a dependency then never use it just to ensure ffmpeg is there? #GameDev #Python store.steampowered.com/app/1565090/...

🎮¿Como seria jugar a #gameboy con stick analógico?

Eso me pregunte y llegue a la conclusión que seria mas o menos así. El concepto es similar a como funciona PWM.

Part of the challenge with gamedev is there's a bazillion options from fantasy consoles like PICO-8/TIC-80, frameworks like LÖVE2D/Pyglet, engines like Godot/Unity, specialzed tools like RenPy/RPGMaker, graphical coding like Scratch and web-based things like GDevelop/Phaser.

Each has a unique feel.

Hey, that's where I first learned to code! Art school, even. A mess of C and Java then really took off w/ Python + Pygame/Pyglet. (Later, Lua at Gaslamp, then C# with Unity.)

You've got lots of time to figure it all out! And FWIW I can't start a Java project from scratch, never learned that part...

Very nice tip. I saw a video back in late 00s from the Aquaria devs showcasing their level editor which was super simple but really nice. I was so simple I could replicate it with python and pyglet fairly quickly, which was a nice exercise, but parts of this general idea stuck with me as well

Kind of looks like arcade/pyglet events might be better than my pub/sub.

After I told Claude I was on day 6 it said this "Ha! Day 6 and you're already wrestling with PyInstaller, circular imports, and pyglet resource bundling — that's pretty deep water for day 6. Go eat, your brain needs fuel." I swear i could hear it roflimfao at me lol

Python Arcade also looks pretty nifty. Seems like it's built on Pyglet. Will have to try it out at some point.

I actually hate java, like a lot. It is just somehow one of the the two languages I know the most… and packaging python on mac is just not that great… if you can recommend any libs or frameworks I’d be very grateful, preferably less opengl like, more pyglet like
