Radio imagers are a specialized breed. They create the identifiers that run between songs, the promos that advance the station, and local commercials.
Identification and promotion is the primary purpose of radio imaging. Stations that run nothing but music and no identification are simply somebody else's playlist. But if you're a commercial station, listeners need to know who you are. Someone once said, stations play the same records, so the difference between them is what they're doing between the songs. The quality of idenfication and promotion cannot be overstated.
As an imager, your resources are many. There is your own ability and drive to put out the best possible product. There are voices, and if you voice yourself, it's another feather in your cap. Then there is the music and effects that round things out. The reality is all of these resources are parts of the puzzle that are required and work together. When it comes to music and effects, you cannot get enough material. You're always looking for more stuff.
Frankly, to do well in radio production and imaging you need music, effects, and great voices. There are some great sources out there, and you need to consider them all. Some are ongoing paid services with online access, and there's some terrific ones. A larger station or group of stations may be able to enter into these situations, other smaller operations may choose not to. There are also smaller providers that are affordable and keep coming out with new material, so there's always fresh material. But the fact is, if you price around, the cost of great effects and music is very inexpensive. Look at how much you get paid, then calculate how much it would cost to have absolutely great resources to work with. Even if the statiion or company you work for will only spend so much, how much better would the product be if you paid for fresh effects and music? How much of a pinch would it be on you? On the flip side, companies may see the value in spending on effects. Either way, ongoing fresh stuff, is better. You need it, you want it.
So whether you're working in a chain of radio stations, a standalone operation, school radio station, or you're a student looking to up your game with great effects, Quietsub FX Radio Imaging Workparts are a great choice.
Rock on Radio Imagers! Or, boogie down. Take your pick.
