Black and White. Looking across the waters of Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin (a sea loch) the mass of Quinag rises 808m (2650ft) directly from sea level. It's lower slopes are covered with deciduous forest (a remnant of the ancient Caledonian Forest) and it's rocky peak is swathed with cloud.

This weeks #WaterfallWednesday is at Quinag in the inappropriately named Sutherland, which is in fact very far north. Considerable contortions undertaken to get waterfall and mountain in shot.

It’s a lovely spot for a moody photo of the Quinag range and the flows of water coming off it. Unfortunately the falls are very close to a small road, in fact practically under it, and to get both waterfall and mountain in the shot means I had to shimmy down a very slippy and precipitous bank. I was in the area with one of my chums, photographing in the same general area but far enough away from each other that if we had come a cropper we’d have had trouble finding each other. Mobile phones weren’t working so instead we had walkie talkies - sensible you’d think. Except we are over grown children and kept calling each other just so we could say “over” a lot, and “Roger” then snicker. “I’m over the bridge, over the river, over by Quinag, Over.”, “Roger that don’t fall in or you’ll be thoroughly rogered. Over”, “Rogered over what, over?!?”, “I’m over this over nonsense, over”. “Roger”. “My name’s not Roger “. Etc etc Over grown kids.

Currently touring Assynt in the Scottish Highlands. Haven’t been here since we were living on the east coast near Tain. I had forgotten just how impressive the mountains are and the geopark trails are great. Past Suilven and Quinag today and a mooch round the fishing village of Lochinver and Stoer.
