#quirm
Here’s a picture of PFT with A’Tuin, so that PFT could go on tour in Discworld with shows in Quirm, Pseudopolis, Genua, Sto Lat, and ending in Ankh Morpork.

Every time I read about Sam Altman, Reacher Gilt is immediately the man who comes to mind.

(One real question is why Gilt would risk working near Vetinari, the one man who can't possibly have been fooled, why not Klatch or Quirm?)

A bit of a Leonard of Quirm where it came to names...

(Discworld inventor whose works included the "Going Under the Water Safely Device". Similarities with another Leonardo in our world may be noticed!)

the cousin to this nausea we call quirm if ever you do break the chains well enough to mess your nappy and eat two tubs of ice cream.
there you embody desire but you don't recognise yourself in empathy.
for more commonly codified identity there is celebration of xelf liberation as an achievement

Poorer, I think, because they’re motivated more by their interests than a desire to make lots of money.

They tend to be a bit like Leonard of Quirm in Pratchett’s Discworld: perfectly happy having just enough to live on, so long as they get to pursue their projects.

@rincewind.run is the expert but pretty much everyone else on the Disc is either smart enough to realize what the Ring is (Vetinari, Vimes, the witches) or too classically evil to do anything useful with it before being caught up in Narrative Causality, except folks like Johnson or Leonard of Quirm

'.. you couldn't really imprison someone like Leonard of Quirm. The most you could do was lock up his body. The gods alone knew where his mind went.!"

IIRC Annotated Pratchett File also said there's a song premised on a guy working at the local chip shop who looks like Elvis, refercing Quirm Imp's vocation.

Ah, Leshp. Someone send for Fred, Nobby and Leonard of Quirm.
August 29, 2026 at 3:34 PM
Yes, these were designed for search and rescue. Hmmm.

There was a good reason why Leonard of Quirm was a de facto prisoner of the patrician. Naively thinking no one could possibly use your doodled designs to inflict harm is peak hope over experience.

Sometimes it’s best not to even mention the Brilliant but Ill Advised Idea, but the fact that that speck of inspiration to hit my brain must be said.

Some inspirations can be dangerous~ Leonard of Quirm, probably.

I'd get a case-clock just so I could fit it with the asynchronous tick mechanism Leonard of Quirm made for Lord Vetinari ... but this generator, an rPi & a large speaker should suffice to turn most people's brains into porridge.

Most people assume that Sam Vimes is the character with whom Terry most identified. But consider Leonard of Quirm, who is constantly assailed by inspiration.

Leonard of Quirm was a conscious play on Q as well as Leonardo da Vinci, wasn't he?
August 20, 2026 at 6:25 PM
Lord Vetinari as 'V' and Leonard of Quirm as 'Q'.
August 20, 2026 at 5:34 PM
As I understand it, on Bluesky we mainly refer to Leonard of Quirm anyway.

True, but that quote's not about Leonard of Quirm. It's about Hwel the playwright.

That quote's not about Leonard of Quirm, though. It's about Hwel the playwright.

Sir Terry did say in an interview once that the character he most closely associated himself with was Leonard of Quirm. 😄
August 8, 2026 at 11:30 PM
Ah, Leonard of Quirm. Up there with Bloody Stupid Johnson for the Disc's greatest bit characters.
August 8, 2026 at 6:28 PM
I’d rather like to apprentice to Leonard of Quirm - all the non interruption from outsiders
