I suspect Eggers’ film also owes a lot to Rachilde’s 1899 French lighthouse novel given some of the overlap.

Finished. This was prob shocking in 1899 (France) with its powerful, erotic and gendered metaphors of the ocean. Oh and the stuff with the corpses..
Beautifully written, it’s less pure horror than a decadent tale of duty, loneliness, madness, cruelty & eventually grief. Enjoyed it.

A quick walk (I’ve put on the pounds again since being unemployed) and back to #spookyseason reading.
Next up is translated French lighthouse horror from the 19th Century. I started it last month but decided to hold off until now whilst I finished Helliconia.

The Tower of Love by Rachilde (1899) which I’m starting today, and Pseudotooth by Verity Holloway, which arrived direct from the author.
Tomorrow my Blake & Mortimer collections should arrive.
I’ve also updated my library database and added a “Translated” tag
