Indonesia’s Development Model: Kill the Forest. Sell the Land. Call It Progress.
Silence in the rainforest: Why Indonesia’s devastation is our business too
OPINION: This is ecocide and we all need to take notice. Our responsibility does not end at our borders.

Rainforest Trust Pledges $50 Million to Advance Conservation Across Commonwealth Nations
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, November 2, 2026—Rainforest Trust announced a commitment to award $50 million in new conservation projects across low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region between 2026 and 2030. The pledge was announced at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting as part of the launch of the Commonwealth Nature Initiative (CNI), a major new effort to mobilize investment and partnerships to advance the global goal of conserving at least 30% of the planet’s land and ocean by 2030. Rainforest Trust is among the founding supporters of the initiative, which launched with US $202.2 million in initial commitments from philanthropic and conservation partners. Former U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, Chair of the Global Steering Committee for Campaign for Nature, formally presented Rainforest Trust’s pledge on behalf of CEO James Deutsch before assembled Commonwealth leaders and dignitaries. “The Commonwealth of Nations encompasses some of the world’s most critical landscapes for biodiversity and the essential benefits nature provides to people across the Global South, said James Deutsch, CEO of Rainforest Trust. “We applaud the Commonwealth Nature Initiative and are privileged to join this effort to accelerate conservation at the scale and pace our planet...

(Re)Sounding Resistance: An Interview with Climate Defender and Kambak founder Nadino Calapucha
Across the Ecuadorian Amazon, daily life for Indigenous communities is steeped in the sounds of the river and rainforest, where the melodies of countless ancestors intertwine. Enter Nadino Calapucha (Kichwa): climate ambassador and committed defender of Indigenous rights across the Amazon basin and beyond. For him, this sonic vernacular gave rise to an inspired musical venture with mass appeal. Starting in 2016, with his group Kambak, Calapucha channeled his voice, through song, to amplify the interests and the language of his Peoples—to the delight of a broad range of audiences across rivers, mountain ranges, and oceans beyond. During Climate Week and the UN General Assembly in New York, Cristina Verán spoke with Calapucha about his life of service and the journey that has brought grassroots resistance, full force, from his Kichwa community and its neighbors to the global stage. Stepping back from the music industry now in order to prioritize political advocacy work in the climate movement and safeguarding the Amazon, he works to ensure that Indigenous Peoples remain the rightful stewards of their territories, as essential, integral partners and collaborators in the fight for its (and by extension, our own) survival. Cristina Verán: First, where do you call home—the...

The journey becomes a survival story, and Amara has knowledge and practical skills that matter in that environment. Her abilities are powerful, yet she also has reasons not to use fire recklessly around the rainforest.

That restraint is a useful part of the portrait.

sometimes wonder if progress pushes could be boosted by pointing out that they would benefit even the unempathetic portion of society.
IE if climate change gave puget sound (a temperate rainforest) yearly fire seasons, the UK can absolutely get them too, making fireworks an even bigger liability.

Why?

$$$ which matters more than destruction of nature and children's lives, apparently.
