Thing I just learned in #rstats: unz() lets you connect to a .zip and load files from inside it without actually unzipping it (great for a file I'm working with that's 30 MB zipped and 1+ GB unzipped, with multiple CSVs in it)

TIL that readr::read_csv and readr::read_excel have different default settings for the 'na' argument. read_csv uses c("", "NA") and read_excel uses just "". #rstats #tidyverse

I thought my file loaded correctly because I DID get some data, not realizing that some rows were missing!

Today I am surprised by how much faster write_tsv() from readr is faster than write.table() from base R for large tables.

This works with `parse_datetime()` from {readr} but I think `parse_date_time()` from {lubridate} requires passing in the date format. If format known and consistent, I'd say use {lubridate}, otherwise let {readr} guess.

Use nanoparquet instead of readr/CSV
Parquet is interoperable between Python and R, fast to read+write, works well with databases, and stores complex data types (e.g., tibble listcols). Use it instead of CSV. Many pros, few (no?) cons.
