The first post-Joe Walsh album by James Gang. Jim Fox and Dale Peters recruited Roy Kenner and Domenic Troiano whose band Bush had broken up. Decent record, nothing standing out but not bad either.

Ever wondered why we call them "albums"? Because they literally were. Before LPs, 78s came as bound books of paper sleeves, just like a photo album.

This one: South Pacific, original Broadway cast, Mary Martin & Ezio Pinza, Columbia Masterworks Set D 244.

#vinyl #78rpm #recordcollecting
A hand holds a 78 rpm record album in an antique shop. The teal cover shows a large white-and-yellow anchor decorated with flowers and a small palm-tree island. Two heart-shaped photos show Mary Martin (left) and Ezio Pinza (right). Text: "South Pacific" with the original Broadway cast, music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, Columbia Masterworks, Set D 244. The background has fur coats on a rack and shelves of vintage glassware and bowls. The album opened like a book: two kraft-paper sleeves with round cut-outs show blue Columbia Masterworks labels on black 78 rpm discs. The left disc, C10222 (D244-13), is "This Nearly Was Mine" sung by Ezio Pinza with an orchestra conducted by Salvatore Dell'Isola. The right disc, C10223 (D244-12), lists two South Pacific songs, including "Carefully Taught." More discs stick out from the sleeves behind them.

What's the last record you bought?

A brand-new release, a used-bin surprise, or something you've been hunting down for years?

Drop the artist and album. We want to hear about it! 🎶
