Have you been wondering about the differences between Reelo and @skylight.social ? We’ve put together this post to help you understand better!
Reelo and Skylight: What’s the difference? The main difference between Reelo and Skylight lies in how posts are made. Skylight uses the existing system on Bluesky, essentially acting as a layer over Bluesky to create a new way to interact with posts made there. However, this approach comes with several limitations, since it depends entirely on Bluesky, such as the inability to add special effects linked to videos, control the duration for longer videos, enable livestreams, or even provide a built-in music library. Reelo, on the other hand, uses its own Lexicon, built on the same protocol that Bluesky uses. This ensures the same transparency and control over your data while also allowing for larger videos (up to 3 minutes), live streaming (in the future), special effects, direct posting through the app, a music library, and many other features. Regardless of which app you choose, both apps represent important innovations with unique approaches. The most important thing is growing the ATmosphere. Reelo logo at the end.

Some of you have asked where the money to fund Reelo comes from. Here's the answer! :)
An infographic with the title 'Where Does Our Money Come From?' followed by the text: "Being transparent with you, the money to fund Reelo currently comes directly out of my own pocket (João Davi), which, in turn, comes from my day-to-day work. I imagine that at some point, Reelo will catch the attention of investors, but don’t be mistaken—this doesn’t mean giving power to those who invest. That will never happen. Furthermore, I’ve considered creating some form of collective support (which seems like a better option) because I believe the power of the people is always stronger. When everyone is in control of what’s being done, rather than it being centralized in a single individual, it benefits everyone. However, I still need to think more about collective support. What do you think about this?"

Working on our blog! Coming very, very soon with the first post sharing some thoughts on building a social network.

It's somewhat inspired by @laurenshof.online blog—very clean and straightforward! :)

Below, the heading reads 'Reelo Blog' with a subtitle: 'The official blog of what is being done on Reelo.' The background has a gradient blue sky with faint clouds. Further down, there's a section titled 'Latest Posts' with the text: 'Stay up-to-date with our updates, features, and behind-the-scenes content.' The first post is displayed, featuring an image of freshly baked cakes in metallic tins inside an oven. The post is titled 'Baking a Social Network :)' and dated February 1, 2025. The preview text begins: 'Building a social network isn't like baking a cake, but it may have a recipe. In the past few days, I’ve been working mostly alone (sometimes with...'.

Here we are! 🥳
Reelo represents a larger effort at building a TikTok-like app that appeals to Bluesky users, but unlike other efforts, it’s not just a layer or filter on top of Bluesky’s existing social network. Instead, Reelo is developing its own stand-alone app on the AT Protocol. That means Reelo will benefit from the same sort of transparency and control over your data as on Bluesky, but it will be free of the limitations of building on top of Bluesky directly.
