the general consensus ive gotten from talking to corporate regulatory/legal teams is that most prefer the much more invasive but predictable/consistent framework in the EU to the ambiguous and evolving regulatory framework in the US

The more I get into the details of the recent AI "escapes" and the calls from the big AI companies for a regulatory framework, the more it really feels like they're actively trying to create a legal cartel for the normal selfish reasons you would expect them to do that.

1. OpenAI deliberately designed software for carrying out autonomous cyberattacks (they were training it on something called “ExploitGym” for heaven’s sake)
2. They left it on completely unmonitored

the greatest trick the EU ever pulled was convincing people its tech regulatory framework was some sort of consumer protection scheme instead of what it actually is, "the EU really being mad that large American tech companies aren't properly bribing them"
