How much of the other private construction was reliant on cheap labor in the form of immigrants who have since been sent to the Congo or Ghana? Maybe that's why it's slowed? The numbers don't pencil out if you have to pay a living wage and have a tiny experienced labor force?

Not good for those reliant solely on the state pension. Presumably there will be other additional benefits that the people affected can apply for but the onus will be on them to do so. Many people already eligible for additional benefits do not do so.

at the risk of boring you: yes, many EU countries have higher state pensions (tho some eg France now trying to reduce) but UK has always been more reliant on workplace pensions: add those, gap narrows. What we do have relative to EU is low working age spend, low tax, little help w/social care cost.

I'm conflicted on triple lock.
I see it is expensive to maintain, but also see how low UK state pension is in European comparison (my German state pension is 1.6x my UK one, pro rata).
Maybe preserve it only for those reliant solely on state pension?
