The Fentanyl Fold: Neurobiological Mechanisms of Opioid-Induced Postural Deformity and Reticulospinal Collapse
Fentanyl's potency, lipophilicity, and full mu-agonist action disrupt reticulospinal and basal ganglia control, causing forward flexion, rigidity, myoclonus, and foaming. Xylazine worsens it. Naloxone...

Supraspinal commands have a modular organization that is behavioral context specific
Lau et al. use calcium imaging and statistical modeling to comprehensively survey reticulospinal activity during diverse locomotor behaviors. They find that a small set of functional modules act combi...

Function: Regulate posture, balance, & involuntary movements.

Key Players:

Rubrospinal: Fine motor control (upper limbs).

Vestibulospinal: Balance & posture.

Reticulospinal: Automatic movements (e.g., walking).

Yeah subcortical motor pathways such as reticulospinal and vestibulospinal tracts as well as central pattern generators in the spine still mediate posture and locomotion to some extent in healthy people. Corticospinal input (ie what’s damaged in the stroke) helps shape more complex motor behaviors
