Gorgeous microscopy!
We found that cells survive a proteostasis defect, but not the lipid imbalance it causes. Rer1 & the Dsc complex triage orphan membrane proteins at the Golgi. Lose both & DAG-rich multilamellar compartments (DMCs) form. Drain DAG & cellular architecture recovers.

AI is rapidly transforming microscopy, but as microscopist or biologist, it can be hard to know where to start! I am pleased to share the free, online textbook that @scopeshifu.bsky.social, @owfpuls.bsky.social, and I edited to address this. Check it out at bioimagingai.janelia.org (1/11)

I've been steadily developing our image compression software over the past month and now you can try it out in your browser, without needing to install anything, thanks to the magic of WebAssembly!

🎉 New preprint! We built a fully open-source, 3D-printable droplet microfluidics platform with strobe-enhanced microscopy — sharp images of fast-moving droplets without a high-speed camera. All files on GitHub.

🔬📈 We analysed #microscopy papers to track #bioimage analysis use. ImageJ+Fiji dominate, but others are gaining ground. Researchers undercite them and provide too little detail to reproduce analyses. By Tayla and Bruno, with @guijacquemet.bsky.social lab

MICROSCOPY.
Making the invisible visible since 1590.

(Yes, those little white balls are actually immune cells circulating through the tinniest blood vessels! Imaged non-invasively through the skin. Blood cells flow from your arterioles to your venules. Watch venous return at the capillary tip!!!)

What if essentiality arose not from a single indispensable activity but rather from the iterative process of evolution arranging physiology around available resources?

Interesting new method: network fixation expansion microscopy (nfExM). Uses MeOH/acrolein at -20°C followed by gel embedding also at -20°C. Works well for microtubules, not sure about the mitochondria/Golgi morphology in the figure's examples www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
