I used to chuckle when everyone started rickrolling people as if it was some new and horrible thing to do to someone. These people had clearly never been tricked into goatse. Every 5-10 years it feels like a new group thinks they have invented internet/online culture from whole cloth.

As a person who is never a fan of nonconsensual (or potentially nonconsensual) exposure to, or distribution of, any person's sexual anything, I personally think graduating to rickrolling could only be considered positive change in any subculture -- however common the practice may have been.
