I do think it would be a useful reflex for us to develop as a society where if someone has a clear interest in concentrating wealth then they are presumed to be an abuser of some form rather than sticking with the idolisation that people seem to have for rich people generally

I will never forget all the cynical gainsaying and disinformation about the strike on Al-Ahli hospital ten days into Israel’s destruction of Gaza. ‘Fog of war’. Almost three years later, fewer than half of Gaza’s hospitals remain even partially functional and there is no fog. Only dust and rubble.

The geniuses who destroyed global hegemonic soft power because they thought it was “suicidal empathy” are now attempting to eliminate the janitors of late capitalism, aka social workers, who they perceive as bleeding heart liberals

Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, music, & cosmetic certification programs will be hit the hardest.”

The lesson to take from this is that the Allied action was not the consequence of consistent moral horror or determined ethical stance. And, precisely, that for much of the British ruling class the fear of losing colonies mattered much more than the fate of Jews at the time.
Not sure what lesson to take from this. In 1942 Britain was still reeling from the loss of Hong Kong & Singapore. Rommel was advancing on Egypt, & German armies pouring towards Stalingrad. Trying not to actually lose the war was the best we could do.
'An exhibition highlighting how news of the atrocity reached Britain much earlier than is commonly understood will tour the country after being viewed privately by MPs at Portcullis House on the parliamentary estate at Westminster in September.'

Heya folks. We're on a final push to get to £10k. We're on just over £8.3k. That's less than 1/10th of what fascist Danny Tommo has recently received inndonations after slashing a dinghy with an RNLI worker on it at sea. Meanwhile our comrade faces more than 12x the jailtime for opposing fascism.
A very dear friend and antifascist comrade is facing serious charges resulting from defending migrants housed in hotels in Bristol from a far right march in 2025. He's a father, has £11k in legal fees up front, and may be facing prison time if he doesn't win. Please dobate below.

Is a subscription Left audiobook company that works alongside Left publishers unfeasible? I'd love one where you could get however many credits a month but have the choice from things specifically from Left publishers. There are so many niche books I just never get around to reading

Yes, that’s right, the guy who resigned as Keir Starmer’s strategist because he was bullying and sexually harassing a Black female MP also thinks asylum seekers are living high on the hog and that people with disabilities are faking it! This is what a centre-left social democrat sounds like!

Not to harp on this, but one man has now coordinated the disruption of a port, two separate attacks on the RNLI, and interference with the border force and the police have no further questions? And the Home Secretary has not noticed?
The man who filmed himself stabbing one, with a person on board, is still seemingly at large.

Not a dicky bird about thugs trying to sink a dinghy with a rescue worker on board or their claims to be "forming an army". Two boats of people seeking safety land and bingo bango they're the ones portrayed as the issue. Labour is complict in the rise of the far right.

The leader of the Tories made a Neo-Nazi criminal an anti-racism and anti-extremism adviser, because she’s so disastrously online she couldn’t see an issue with him having harassed an MP so horrendously that he was sent to prison for it. All the lads hemmed and hawed a bit, until it went away.

I'm pretty sure there's more job losses in academia than in oil and nobody seems to give a shit
I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed.

25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it!

Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Terry goddamn Pratchett
This is absolutely true. Centrist politicians have essentially fetishised "tough choices" into being an end in itself. If you don't have to throw someone under the bus to achieve some broader strategic goal (even if you're not certain what that goal is), it's not grown-up politics.
i really think democratic politicians are all just addicted to making compromises. they can't get enough! they would broker a compromise between jeffrey dahmer and his victim to let dahmer eat just a forearm
