Amazing sunrise over Rockabill on this day last year.

Moonrise over Rockabill Island from this day 2024. Was planning to get the moon on the horizon but the clouds didn’t play ball … a lot of scrambling over a rocky beach provided this shot as the moon eventually appeared!

RAINBOW MAGIC

Stunning rainbow colours over Rockabill this afternoon. Photo was taken from High Rock, Portmarnock around 3pm between the showers.

Making sure to not be outdone by the sun, this was the beautiful moon on display over Rockabill Lighthouse on this day last year. Photo taken from Barnageara Beach near Skerries.

More beautiful sunrise memories - this time from Skerries, Co. Dublin on this day last year as the sun rose over Rockabill. Rockabill is a pair of small granite islands situated approximately 6 km east-northeast of Skerries in County Dublin.

Rockabill islands, off the town of Skerries, County Dublin. From the Irish 'Cloch Dábhiolla', meaning 'Two-bill Rock'.

Home to a lighthouse and the largest colony of roseate terns in Europe. And possibly some stray cats.

Cradling the sunrise 🌅

The iconic Rockabill Lighthouse stands watch in the distance as the Tidy Towns sculpture (by Shane Holland) frames the morning sun. Lots of cloud on the horizon but still a beautiful hazy sunrise on Red Island!

More “Flesh” in #5debutalbums8084. This 1982 debut album came after 6 years as a band, a failed initial record and an EP. A little bit garage-y/rockabill-y/punk-y. Saw them in a tiny venue in 2013 and they were fantastic. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying

The Tidy Towns sculpture in Skerries just before sunrise this morning with Rockabill in the distance. The sculpture is by Shane Holland. It is situated on Red Island and was commissioned by Skerries Tidy Towns to honour the town’s 2016 Win and as a tribute to all the hard work of volunteers.

I've had worse lunchtime spots.
Opposite Ardgillan between Skerries & Balbriggan.
Tern calls, the sea breaking on the beach below.. wonderful relaxing sounds.
Spit has numerous Gulls (+ Terns I'msure.) but too far sadly. Rockabill, home of the Roseate colony sitting pretty about 5km offshore.

Lucky to get regular Med Gulls here, should be flocks of approx 100 nearby at Gormanston over next few weeks.
Of course, having Rockabill on the doorstep (as it were) we get regular Rosy Terns too.
Plenty of Black Guillemot all along coast as well.

For anyone interested in learning more about terns, or looking for a good news conservation story. This is a documentary I narrated a few years ago about Europe’s largest Roseate tern colony crowcragproductions.com/rockabill/?f...
Rockabill
Rockabill, off the Dublin coast, is home to thousands of breeding seabirds, including more than half of the European population of the rare Roseate Tern. The birds’ success here is thanks to a cons…
