there's something of the Russian 'the peasants love me, their master' in this, but it's also because of the unusually powerful status of Black culture in America. the closest (and not all that close) European equivalent might be the simultaneous romanticization and denigration of Roma?
They really want the people who they view as inferior and worthy of abuse to agree with them.
That's what the "black person thinks I'm cool" thing is about - it's the equivalent of "black person thanked me for being racist".

I love art. I love this craft of visual romanticization. Seeing how people interpret the world around them with their feelings and thoughts poetically laid bare in line and color. Art can ignite the imagination and passion in others and it’s all done by moving a stick around with intent and emotion.

I don't want to contribute to romanticization of humble Trump voting rural men and women, but his voters can be downright decent one-on-one. A few aren't even interpersonally racist or sexist! But their ideas on politics and how the world should be are racist, sexist, and heavily influenced by lies.
I'd say that you can find good in many people who voted for Trump, but you won't find it in their reasons for voting for Trump or in their ideas about politics.
I know Trump voters who can be kind and generous and loving. If you ask why they voted for Trump they'll give you misinfo and bigotry.
