Just a reminder that @alfredtwu.bsky.social 's COVID-era state pacts map is still the best reference for any "what if present-day America balkanized" scenario. Not only do you get an idea of which states would likely band together, but you even see potential flash points.

Learning about @oxide.computer's Hubris RTOS has been an incredible exercise in how different systems can be. In some sense, it has essentially made the polar opposite choice to everything I've done with embassy, async, and ergot over the past 3-5 years.
Neither are *wrong*, they're just different.

Best case scenario for LLMs: A lot of big money spurs RTOs and utilities and relevant vendors to figure out faster interconnection, then the bubble bursts and we use that process improvement for more important stuff.

The initial public health response to Covid with limited income protections and WFH capabilities gave workers a little bit of autonomy and control over their lives which led to the great resignation and the corporations immediately responded with RTOs and layoffs and accelerated AI.
