Jolla has spent years disparaging projects based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for marketing. SailfishOS has a largely closed source user interface and application layer with no equivalent to the open source AOSP. It's far less private and secure than AOSP or iOS too.

SailfishOS is largely closed source other than components they didn't make. Despite that, Russia's government has a fork called Aurora OS due to their 8 year partnership which started in 2015 which was 1 year after Russia invaded Ukraine and was heavily sanctioned. That's hardly a pro-Europe option.

Jolla phone too! It runs SailfishOS Linux with Waydroid for app support and is apparently pretty good!
I'm hoping device support improves so I can ditch Android altogether. Sick of root or Shizuku or safetynet workarounds just to use my own phone that I bought with my own fucking money

The largely closed source SailfishOS drastically reduces privacy, security and usability compared to the open source Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It has a very incomplete Android app compatibility layer able to run some Android apps while losing app sandboxing and other important protections.

9. The Sailfish OS UI is beautiful and truly a pleasure to use. Definitely my favorite of the mobile OSes. Granted I never tried Windows Phone but dang is SailfishOS a nice OS. Everyone should get to use it at least once

Jolla has been in the process of launching a product using their SailfishOS. A major part of their marketing is attacking AOSP-based projects to differentiate themselves.
SailfishOS code made by Jolla is largely closed source. It sits on top of open source code such as Linux but isn't open itself.

Someone @mentioned our project account in a huge post with many inaccurate and misleading claims about AOSP and GrapheneOS. It worked towards promoting SailfishOS, etc. at the end. We responded to it with corrections and our perspective. We mainly pointed out SailfishOS is not open like AOSP.

Someone @mentioned our project account in a huge post with many inaccurate and misleading claims about AOSP and GrapheneOS. It worked towards promoting SailfishOS, etc. at the end. We responded to it with corrections and our perspective. We mainly pointed out SailfishOS is not open like AOSP.
@vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu I’m trying to leave US tech but there is “vendor lock-in” in bank apps. Finland’s Jolla is a great EU phone but most bank apps require security from Google/Apple. My AIB Irish bank app wouldn’t work with its SailfishOS. Could this be solved by EU legislation/regulation?
