#sailpower
i will say something which is that when you try to get inside the early modern mind you realise quickly how absolutely terrified they all were of the weather. like they're much closer to our ancient ancestors than to us on that front. something something sailpower + only rudimentary irrigation....

Most naval nations have such ships. The US, Britain & others do. Mainly a traditional thing, for competitive sake, but has a practical application should there arise a situation requiring use of sailpower.

OK, so a question: it seems like someone re-invents sails for oil tankers every few years. Could we have sailpower-only oil tankers? It's not like latency matters, only throughput.

First voyage by a new, purpose designed, sailing cargo ship completed -- with teething problems, admittedly.

But this is the only way we're going to be able to continue intercontinental trade into the second half of this century, so I'm glad to see it.

Hell even for shipping like. It can’t possibly be *THAT* hard to figure out how to square containerized freight with sailpower

(Yes I know it’s hard but it’s not. y’know. borderline impossible the way it is for e.g. air travel)
