My Dad was captured in Singapore as well.
He was sent to Sandakan, Borneo.
Sandakan was a most shocking & forgotten story of Australian POWs.
They had to sign secrecy agreements with Aust gov.
He lived to 95 & was the funniest person I've ever known.

You've probably not heard of Sandakan.
Of the almost 2500 British and Australian POWs held by the Japanese only 6 survived.
I've listened to their harrowing interviews and it's something special to me to find a book signed by 3 of them. #histbookchat

#WWII The Sandakan Death Marches were a series of forced marches in Borneo from Sandakan which resulted in the deaths of 2,434 Allied POWs. By the end of the war, of all the prisoners who had been incarcerated at Sandakan and Ranau, only six Australians survived. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandaka...

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detained a tugboat carrying about 10k litres of diesel in Sandakan waters, with two local men held to assist investigations. The vessel and diesel are estimated to be worth RM552k.
