Its summer leaves are red, but not the bright red of its fall leaves. I didn’t realize I was wrong in the other post until just now. Funny how memory works.

Sandcherry is an interesting dune plant because it often has many of its branches buried beneath the sand. This is part of why we see clonal mats of it on dunes here in Colorado. 🌿

purpleleaf sandcherry - it's a cross between an asian purple-leafed variety and a US native, would have to look up which ones, don't remember off the top of my head

As a child visiting my paternal grandparents I remember this Flowering Crab as a fully grown tree so beautiful in Spring, so I know its over 80 years old & still just gorgeous every year!

As a child visiting my paternal grandparents I remember this Flowering Crab as a fully grown tree so beautiful in Spring, so I know its over 80 years old & still just gorgeous every year!

When the blue jays visit our narrow urban yard, they do so in packs of 8 - minimum (our record is 14 all at once- what a racket!). Here's one of this morning's gang, not exactly camouflaged in the sand cherry, standing guard as his buddies clear out out feeders. 😅🐦 #birds #TorontoBirding

My native cherries aren’t as showy as the Japanese Sakura but they smelled so sweet! They’re far apart so I hand pollinated them with sexy music playing, LOL!
