Three string reminds me of the Japanese Shamisen/Sanshin which can use a wide plectrum or bachi and mostly leaves two strings open.
I picked up a coffee can shamisen kit while I was in Japan and had a lot of fun. Hrmmm I wonder if I can get a real one now…

Rather than alternative hairstyles it's just a progression of his hair from teenager onwards! The short shaggy hair, slightly longer mullet, the iconic ponytail, unbound when he's relaxed/sleeping and then an older version that's a little softer and not as long 💜
