Been a few years since I've done #Museum30. This time, it feels necessary.

#Museum30 is turning 10 this year!

To celebrate ten years of building connection and sharing what makes museums wonderful, I have brought back ten of my favourite prompts from the list that started it all ✨

I can't wait to see what you all share this year, starting as always on November 1st!

🕯️CANDLE VIGIL TONIGHT🕯️

Yesterday’s City Hall hearing went well. Now let’s gather together to remind Drexel that we aren’t going away.

Open the doors.

If you watch only one clip from the Philadelphia City Council hearing about the closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences, let it be this one. It — and I don't say this lightly — must be seen to be believed. #savetheacademy

Can you borrow our professionals until Drexel University is forced to rehire them, pay back wages and damages, after a divorce when Academy of Natural Sciences gets the house, the kids and the mortgage? #SaveTheAcademy #OxfordUniversity

Don't take nutrition advice from videos unless they are from registered dieticians. Vitamins are not all the same, they come in water soluble and fat soluble. I once taught a course in vitamins and minerals to Drexel Univ nutrition students, before Drexel turned into an apex predator #SaveTheAcademy

#Museum30 Day 2: Paint

Many of the Academy's diorama backgrounds were painted by artist Clarence C. Rozenkranz (who also contributed to many of the dioramas at the AMNH). Others include Francis Lee Jaques, Stephen T. Harty, and Jonathan Fairbanks Jr.

#SaveTheAcademy The museum is closed. We heard last night that Drexel is "honoring contracts" but only for rich people having functions in the museum, not contracts with school groups. Meanwhile they have boxed Botany of Nations exhibits; they lied that they have changed nothing.
If I was there rather than on the west coast, I would help you by arranging for school children's tours if possible. Put kids at the center. I've won heated political battles by making kids the central issue. "The Children's Crusade" before it is gone forever.

Wiipedia: "The first Tiktaalik fossils were found in 2004 on Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Canada. The discovery, made by Edward B. Daeschler of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Neil H. Shubin from the University of Chicago, and Harvard University Professor Farish A. Jenkins Jr." #SaveTheAcademy

Fabulous! Wikipedia meetups are fun; no-one hosts, everyone logs into Wikipedia and makes changes as long as there is a decent reference for the change. It can be done virtually, on Zoom, or one afternoon at the Free Library. I wonder if friends of the Museum are interested? #SaveTheAcademy

Don't move them, obviously. #savetheacademy
Unlike other parts of the museum’s collection, the dioramas are near-immovable historic artifacts. Preserving them would require significant time, labor, and money, perhaps millions of dollars.
‘Once we lose these, they’re gone forever’: What will become of the dioramas at the Academy of Natural Sciences?

#SaveTheAcademy. We heard at the hearing, and again at the vigil, that rich folks were allowed into the museum but not kids from schools in North Philly.
Omg. Letting the rich in but not children could be something to hang your hat on. Do you have local alternative journalism? A letter writing effort by parents who went there as kids?
