Sunday Paper - Class 1 and Class 3 e-bikes
<p>Starting January 1, 2025, <a href="https://electrek.co/2025/01/01/starting-today-california-is-coming-for-your-e-bike-throttles/">California has tightened e-bike rules</a>, banning throttles on Class 1 and Class 3 e-bikes, keeping them only for Class 2 models.</p> <p>Honestly, I get it. E-bikes can hit some pretty high speeds, and when you factor in their weight compared to regular bikes, the risks to pedestrians become real. <a href="https://islandinthenet.com/tag/lectric-xpremium/">My Lectric XPremium</a>, for example, can hit 45 km/h (28 mph) in Class 3 mode. But personally, I think anything over 18 mph is too much for e-bikes, especially on sidewalks or trails.</p> <p>That’s why I fully support California’s move to rein in throttle use. I even disabled the throttle on my e-bike a while back and stick to safer modes. It just feels like the responsible thing to do.</p> <div class="syndication-links"></div><div class="sharedaddy sd-block sd-like jetpack-likes-widget-wrapper jetpack-likes-widget-unloaded" data-name="like-post-frame-5508687-122872-677aa21d713c7" data-src="https://widgets.wp.com/likes/?ver=14.1#blog_id=5508687&amp;post_id=122872&amp;origin=islandinthenet.com&amp;obj_id=5508687-122872-677aa21d713c7&amp;n=1" data-title="Like or Reblog" id="like-post-wrapper-5508687-122872-677aa21d713c7"><h3 class="sd-title">Like this:</h3><div class="likes-widget-placeholder post-likes-widget-placeholder" style="height: 55px;"><span class="button"><span>Like</span></span> <span class="loading">Loading...</span></div><span class="sd-text-color"></span><a class="sd-link-color"></a></div> <div class="category-and-tags"> <a href="https://islandinthenet.com/category/weekly-summary/" rel="category tag">Weekly Summary</a> <a href="https://islandinthenet.com/tag/california-senate-bill-1271-sb-1271/" rel="tag">California Senate Bill 1271 (SB-1271)</a><a href="https://islandinthenet.com/tag/electric-bicycle/" rel="tag">Electric Bicycle</a> </div>

Had a productive day here in Connecticut, USA.

Took part in a meeting of local #AuthorsAgainstBookBans members to discuss CT's SB1271, submitted written testimony in support of it, & watched the hearing to take notes on talking points from the opposition.

I wrote a blog post, too!
