It reminds me of how they got grief about the inconsistency of their rating system and the "7 is good" defense of reviews for games like Doom and Fallout 3, so their response was to change the review key as follows:
Edge's review policy: Every issue, EDGE (always in bold) evaluates the best, most interesting, hyped, innovative or promising games on a scale of ten, where five naturally represents the middle value. In germany the schoolgrades go from 1.0 (the highest) to 6.0 (the lowest). So 1 is 100% and 6 0%.
A 0.1 is equal to 2%, so if you have a 1.4 it is like 92%, a 4.8 is 24%.

To simplify the system, in school there are no decimal places, instead its rated 1, 1-, 2+, 2, 2-, 3+ .... 5, 5-, 6+ and 6.
