#scutoids
So... Can be animals without #scutoids?
This a difficult question to answer, you cannot get mutants without scutoids.
So we designed a computational model to demonstrated that it is not possible to form epithelial tubes without apico-basal intercalations.

And now in english... We are very happy! In this interesting article of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, the #scutoids reach the status of a reference shape to tile the 3D space; being compared with the Kelvin structure. #SciComm

Guillaume Pernollet shows that epithelial cells adjust their shape to locally flatten, forming scutoids for any geometry, changing our view of cell packing. Thanks to all! @clairedessalles.bsky.social @juanmagararc.bsky.social @sciencesunige.bsky.social

Beautiful work from Rados et al.: if archaea are exposed to compressive forces, they form tissue-like structures...and guess what? Scutoids emerge!

(further evidence that "our" shape is a universal solution for efficient cell packing: scutoids rock! 🤓)

#scutoids at Colorado State University!!!

I hope that some day @unisevilla.bsky.social will also have some!!!!
Found them on a brisk, clear day with blue skies!

So, today the 10 year old got interested in scutoids due to a Vi Hart video, and that led to looking into all sorts of weird shapes, and HOLY SHIT how come nobody told me about trajectoids? www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbuX...

The rise and rise of scutoids...

Many of us have discovered new genes, proteins, pathways, mechanisms...

@lmescu.bsky.social and @javierbuceta.bsky.social discovered a new shape

How cool is that?!

Now hitting the standard reference literature

WARNING!!!!!

In this issue you can find an amazing paper.

Our lab and @baronelab.bsky.social working together to investigate how 3D epithelial packing and growth are coupled during #SeaStar embryo development.

We find that #scutoids are the favorite shape of the cells after mitosis.

I was thinking to do the same with scutoids…

We wondered: could a cell’s 3D shape affect its signalling range? Wing disc cells are scutoids, and therefore could meet new neighbours through apico-basal intercalations.

i recommend being this persion, get som constant with solids, maybe some scutoids, perhaps even a gömböc
