Pile of rotten palm scales (?) for some reason contains more scytodes than I have ever seen anywhere in my life. I'm sure someone finds that relevant

Well, this was a first for me last night. Scytodes thoracica (Spitting Spider) on the walls, both sides on the stairs in the house. I've never seen two at the same time. Both female.

A nice find on the bathroom floor around midnight last night. Scytodes thoracica (Spitting Spider) - male. I think it's only the 5th time I've found one in the house. For a slow-mover, it was surprisingly difficult to get a photo of.

#InverteFest fun fact: in 2020 scientists named a new spitting spider species "Scytodes kumonga" after the Godzilla franchise's kaiju Kumonga.

One year later, as part of Godzilla Singular Point's social media promos, Toho tweeted that Kumonga is canonically scientifically called "Kumonga scytodes".

I think it's safe to assume that this year has been my best year ever for Spitting Spider Scytodes thoracica, incl. seeing 2 at the same time and my first juv. I've still only seen them in 2 locations - here & once in Bristol Museum when I worked there in the late 80s.

This splendid creature is a Spitting spider, Scytodes thoracica.This spider is able to spit venomous silk twenty times it’s body length to catch prey, and prevent being prey.

I found this tiny juvenile Spitting Spider (Scytodes thoracica) on the kitchen ceiling this morning. I've never seen a juv before. I'm so glad my eyes still work!

Wandering around the compound after dark, we would often encounter these very dark coloured spitting spiders (Scytodidiae). This one is called Scytodes fusca.
A dark brown spitting spider, this one is missing a leg on the left side, and is carrying an egg sac.

Trawling through old photos and found this of Scytodes thoracica, the spitting spider, from my old flat in Brynmill. In 2020 this was the western-most record in Wales on inaturalist, but someone found one two roads over last year. I’m further west now, I need to find another to get my pride back!
