It was a NAS. The first day is five external drives (sdc1, sdd1, sdf1, sdg1, sdh1) mounted one at a time at /mnt/backup and rsynced into the LVM volume at /mnt/warez. The exclude lists tell you where the data came from: .qpkg and @Recycle are QNAP, while Application Support, Library, Caches, and .rubies are a Mac home directory. So it was a consolidation of a QNAP and at least one Mac onto one mirrored volume.

Same afternoon, a hard left turn into SDR: rtl-sdr, sdr-server from the r2cloud repo, then SoapySDR and SoapyRemote built from source, ending with SoapySDRServer --bind=10.0.0.124. Network was 10.0.0.x then.

The box also built Armbian from source on 30 May (git clone armbian/build, ./compile.sh), producing Armbian_23.08.0-trunk_Orangepi5_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img. That's your 11GB build/ directory.

Mid-life

June 2023: an hour of hand-to-hand combat with NUT trying to talk to a Vertiv/Liebert BE700Y-IND UPS over usbhid-ups, ending with manual vendorid=10af productid=0002.

September 2023: dd throughput benchmarks against the array.

31 May 2024: Time Machine setup. Created /mnt/warez/timemachine, edited smb.conf, added /etc/avahi/services/samba.service so Macs would discover it, chown warez:staff. That's the same day the pi5plus got its first commands, so you had both boards open at once.

February 2025, teardown

This is the part worth your attention.

17 Feb: the array wouldn't mount. e2fsck, dumpe2fs, then vgreduce --removemissing mirror_vg. A physical volume had died. You got it mounted again, and then set up an rsync daemon and iperf3, plus system_profiler SPNetworkDataType | grep PHY to check link speed from a Mac. That reads as evacuating the data off the box over the network.

18 Feb: lvremove, vgremove --removemissing, pvremove /dev/sda --force --force, then dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda.

Party Cadre/Amazon workers from the KCVG facility in Northern KY had been part of the salting program at JFK8, and then they came back to KY to organize. They personally assisted our warehouse campaign at SDF1 all the way down in Campbellsville; which is why I had joined SAlt in the first place.
