#secessionism
I might give secessionism the time of day when it starts coming from someone with actual problems. In the meantime they should all be treated like terrorists.

As the public face of Silicon Valley secessionism, Srinivasan’s Network State Conference seemed like a prime window into the techno-capitalist frontier.

AfD unexpectedly throws the Italian far right off balance by encouraging secessionism in South Tyrol [translation in comments]

Exactly - the court is effectively encouraging internal secessionism within blue states.

Best piece of journalism of 2026. The funniest and the most depressing

So we can now legitimately describe Rupert Lowe as a traitor if he is supporting secessionism?

Obviously a tactic with a very problematic past but I don't get why countries like the UK dealing with ethno-regional secessionism don't try to Balkanize their secessionists anymore. Scotland wants to secede from the UK? Hit them with a northern Scotland secession movement, not so funny now is it?

broadly I think at least 20% of the secessionism is driven by little England's refusal to even look at constitutional issues; multiple choice voting with proportional outcomes, the Lords, the general "nothing can be done" malaise.

Quebec had a 60/40 split in the 1980 ref, and we ended up doing it again in 95 and may be heading for round 3.

With the probable demographic & economic changes in AB to 2045, bouncing the rubble here with an 80/20 probably kills secessionism forever. Instead looks like we'll dance again

A distressed Forest City and an “Eton for Edgelords” Network School. Sounds about right! From Sam Venis—who is also working on a play about the Quebec separatist movement in 1976 Montreal.

The #NetworkState tries to get geopolitical, aiming at “a new Hanseatic League" of private #startupcities around the world. Said just before #Balaji 's Network School was kicked out of Malaysia...

Excellent piece by Sam Venis.

The very short story is that they are Canada’s Texas; oildrunk and delusional, Loud masters of the universe who can make their cronies in media pay attention to them; but actual secessionism isn’t popular with the rest of the province.

This is one of the things that radicalized me into secessionism. Sovereign states should be kept small so if "the people" choose to murk the subaltern, they'll only have a local footprint.

It's absurd that a government that rules out of Washington has any authority over Minnesota.

“We must eradicate MAGA both because it is no different from the KKK or McCarthyism or secessionism in the 19th Century, a cancer on our body politic, but because it has always been primarily a populist vehicle to advance the interests of the few against those of the many.”

A must read by Rothkopf
I wrote a couple threads here on Bluesky about this weekend's headlines, how they tie to corruption and what we must do to deal with the threat. I revisit and expand upon what I wrote here in my latest Substack. davidrothkopf.substack.com/p/its-the-co...

sometimes it's secessionism, sometimes it's just self-determination of nations who never asked to be subjugated into the empire.

Blurring the question of a United Ireland with that of Scottish secessionism or, even worse, Brexit, when the Good Friday Agreement's Unity clause is *right there* is just a bit mad, and completely unnecessary.

Secessionism is very rarely justified but if it is ever, then not wanting to be part of the Russian Empire is such a case

Exciting news everybody: so long as you change the name on the tin of your empire, it is suddenly not imperialism for you to violently reconquer the people you used to control, it's just sparkling anti-secessionism.

Tankies, man, wow.

When Canada needs unity and the steadfastness of all its citizens, Danielle Smith continues to undermine that unity by empowering secessionism with her blather about a "binding" referendum and now, her pusillanimous, weak-kneed response to the latest American aggression and PM Carney's firm reaction
