Hangin' tree: 1/64 scale. Lybrook badlands, NW New Mexico

#scape #eastcoastkin #badlands #NewMexico #blackandwhite #classicmono #deadtree #hiking #wilderness #erosion #selectivefocus
A tiny dead scrub brush with the appearance of a wind-blown tree sprouts from a tortured erosional plain full of mud cracks. The focus is on the "tree," and things become defocused into the background where we see a hint of horizon line, tilted at an angle. Canon 5DII, f/5.6

Crepe myrtles in fall add abundant #warmth to the color palette.

Showy red leaves in the foreground are in sharp focus here, while the trunk of the tree they're growing on is blurred behind. A bit of clear sky peeks through at left, with green foliage predominant in the background. Canon 5DII, 200mm, 1/100 sec. at f/5.6

A blooming yucca with white, bell-shaped flowers on its stalk stands in clear focus before a deeply eroded promontory in the background that is not in sharp focus. A brilliant white and yellow sego lily is our primary focus here, with the background blurred and indistinct. Brilliant red paintbrush blooms in front of a dead tree stump.

Delicate focus. This fern is happy growing in my garden so it is a favourite subject. I used my Bronica etrsi with Zenzanon 75mm lens complete with a 14mm extension tube to freeze the leaves, ilford HP5.
