#self-pub
I can even forgive "that been peeled open", god knows I occasionally a word myself, and it's self pub. It's the mixed metaphors, the awkward prose that gives us no vibes, just an awkward attempt to describe a photograph we can't see. A room standing up to its ankles in water.

A dose of optimism from @davidrlurie.com in @atrupar.com's PN:

"One somewhat reassuring thing is already clear — Trump’s ongoing assault on the US government will continue to sap his already eroding power."

She is also aware that self-pub queer romance exists and in fact reads and promotes it, which is incredible honestly. I will follow her wherever she reviews next!

Folk have been reaching out, and there are options. And, at the end of the day, I suppose I could always self pub? But I'd love money to go to a different small press (ideally one without toxic chaos)

I'm so sorry! Big hugs, and if you ever need any help navigating self-pub, I'm happy to help!

sometimes it is actually scary when I think about how my brain is a graveyard of self-pub money making schemes, but I was there from the very beginning so I watched *all of it* go by. lol

they love fanfic but hate self published stuff (confusing double standard). the reason i self pub is because publishers have fucked me over. the press that published my first book (which i won an award for btw) never paid me any of my royalties for instance. and then that happened again w a diff

People in the indie ttrpg and self pub scene have been complaining about itch.io for years, wild to see people treating the recent criticism as something new and out of pocket.

Also @rpgtrader.com banned AI content and seem to be doing well enough so like skill issue I guess.

So, when you know a poem/story etc is REALLY GOOD, but a bit of a hard sell, how many shots do you give it on submission before deciding to self-pub? 🤔

Would love to have a few more backers to this! Costs to print a book are usually prohibitive to self-pub authors, but you can get awesome stickers, a short story, & bookmarks out of the deal when you back my awesome #SFF novel about propaganda & monsters!

Big push to finish this nonfiction book, yep. And to navigate the maze of self-pub options. So, editing and admin.

Trust me when I say that getting a font pack you can fall back on when you're designing your self-pub work saves so much brain space. This is hecking good value for your brain space.
It's that time again, we've made 1200+ fonts over the years and we put them all in one big pack for just $19! Use them in game dev, art, comics, whatever! ci.itch.io/all-fonts-pack

Small and indie presses can't fill the void of big 5 publishers without a MASSIVE shift in the mindset of readers and writers.

How many readers do you know who refuse to touch self-pub/indie-pub because of "quality" reasons?

How many indie/small presses can pay advances?

a lot of self-pub gurus love to give stats on how they make $50,000 a month and you can pay them for their class to learn how, and it's often someone whose books have no real passionate fan base and you learn later they spend $40,000 a month in advertising to make that happen.
