Also as an engineer and self certified paranoid, don't set up anything smart or connected to the network if it involves basic household functions (oven, stove, fridge...). And if you must, make sure the company has cybersecurity expertise, maintains its software and turn on auto updates
Omfg stop hooking fridges to unsecured networks
I will say this about AI: I don't believe it's sentient or that it'll replace us or whatnot. But what it does very well is finding chains of exploits, and malignly intentioned hackers got a huge boost in their ability to get into places
Cyberattack on France’s national blood service (EFS) via its refrigeration contractor Coolworld. Hackers reset freezers keeping blood donor samples at -30°C to a target of 110°C. The thing that stopped it from destructive impact was an on-call technician who noticed the temperatures going up.

He's a set piece (and the big draw!) in Buffalo Bill's traveling nostalgia show, participating in a vaudevillian retelling of how the West was won

At the same time, Sitting Bull was mad shrewd and extremely self aware. He licensed his image and poured the money back into Indigenous communities.

Trump set out to gut much of the US government, mistakenly believing it would enhance his own power. But Trump’s “success” in immolating the government he is charged with overseeing ensured his own failure as a would-be dictator, as I discuss in PN.

TBH a self-avowed capitalist with an internally consistent and unapologetic set of values favoring human rights is enough of a unicorn I'll happily take him.

He's what the center is supposed to be.

We should obviously even consider allowing this, for all the completely self-evident reasons.

So I assume this government is all set to rubber-stamp it any time now.
Interesting from BBC: "Four planned "hyperscale" data centres - including three in the south of England - are already considering using gas-fired power to meet their electricity needs, creating more CO2 than the cities of Manchester, Liverpool and Southampton combined." www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Can someone please get the audiobook of Pratchett’s Making Money & forcibly pipe it at Sam Altman until he realizes he’s proposing the Golem problem that destroyed the Umnian Empire because a world that depends on one machine set is a world that dies. Only very stupidly self-involved people like it.

A bit of shameless self-indulgence:

I’ve got the strangest and most unfamiliar feeling of calm about this game.

I just realized today that’s because for better or worse, it is 100% the thing I set out to make, and I can’t say that about anything else I’ve worked on.
