Say what you like about Esther Rantzen as a broadcaster - and believe me, few people can have laughed harder than me at the Victor Lewis-Smith/NTNOCN/Henry Root sendups - but she did her best to try and improve life for so many people in so many ways and we could do with more like her.

With the usual caveat that Newsom is a slick opportunist, his Twitter sendups of TFG's posts are the kind of mockery that works. That asshole HATES anything that makes him look weak or stupid. Every Dem with a platform should be doing exactly this, because they make unforced errors when mocked.

"If celebrating 'Cultural Readymades' is the goal, then where are the Zeta sendups of the Hamburglar, Steamboat Willie, Cybertrucks, or Coca-Cola? If you're gonna satirize consumer culture with your edgy collages, then commit to the fucking bit, sellouts!"

Or, worse and sadly likely, they base their impression of silent movies on later spoofs of ripoffs of sendups of silent movies.

Ya know, the Elvis (or Captain Kirk!) problem

Lupino Lane playing every role in ONLY ME (1929), a comedy delightfully infused with classic British music hall antics, as well as sendups of old stage melodramas and the earliest silent films.

They are very much loving sendups of the unexamined class in the genre. That’s why the direct engagement with class in Rian’s is so pointed — it uses a vehicle for the romanticization of class hierarchy to critique modern class codes.

don't get me wrong the aesthetic sendups are more than enough to justify a fantasy catholicism read its just. i make this complaint every six months. its crazy that they were the villain for an entire expac and i dont have a clue what they believe

They're getting to a generation of people in major design positions that were AFTER the generation that grew up on SMB 1-3 and World and wanting to do sendups to those. And the DKC games were kindof a big friggin deal.

This style of melodramatic villainy is often associated with silent films but if it was being spoofed in 1906, perhaps it was part of Gilded Age drama?

I found sendups dating all the way back to the 1850s, some specifically using "and the villain still pursued her..." line.
