#serger
Well I thought you needed whatever it is a serger does, since that's how RTW clothes are made. And I've sewn knits with a zigzag on my old machine but that doesn't work for everything

I dunno! I just thought a backstitch worked the same as a machine straight stitch cos they look similar

That brother is sort of the standard recommendation for a reasonably priced and solid serger

oh shit... I'll look into it then 👀
I have a husqvarna serger that's probably close to 20 years old now and I know I'm stupid but it's never worked well, and I doubt I can get parts for it anymore if it breaks.
TBH I really want one that can do the tshirt stitch too, mine can't.

I've never fully timed a serger before, only straight needles, my mechanic mentor hated doing it he was like "you don't wanna learn to do this"

So I'm learning to do this I guess lol
I'm more concerned about the fact that the looper isn't passing in front of the needles at all, it's way BEHIND them

I do have a serger, and I hate French seams.

I love how they turn out but I'm damn lazy. I'm not good at it, but it's what I do when I do it

😂. I just buy fabric because I like it, and what it ends up being is a mystery to be solved later.

Do you have a serger? Do you prefer French seams?

many reasons dressmaker immediately got me but certainly one is the fact that i've been agonizing for quite awhile about wishing i had my sewing machine and serger and could Make Things

I was given a free serger today. Now I gotta figure out how to use it.

Dear Goodwill Industries,

Charging $115 for a donated serger, that has no power cord, so you don’t know if it actually works is some fucked up bullshit.

Signed,
Me

Seams on commercial sweaters are almost always cut and sewn with a serger machine. Handknit sweaters have handmade seams.

mask shop that has its worker upstairs with a messy ass sew room with a mannequin and a juki serger/single stitch machine. Always thank your sewist for your tf items 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

(in truth, I have never used a serger. A friend of mine has two and I’m thinking of asking if I can buy her old one but now I’m scared 😰)

Serger: Ha HA! NOW EVERYTHING IS SEWN TOGETHER SO PERFECTLY AND WELL SEALED! YOU WOULD NEED SO MANY STITCH RIPPERS TO UNDO MY WORKS!

I can slow down my regular machine, but MY GOD the serger has one speed and it’s Fast AF

And for the baby Lock, they have sold listings on eBay anywhere from $50 to this one for 200. So again it all depends on the condition of the machine, if it sews a good chain right now, has a bag Bla Bla Bla.

Everything i needed to start working on it.

But now, the fabric stores don't seem to have all the things. No zipper i needed. No insulating lining. Barely any interfacing at all honestly, which is used in basically every clothes sewing project. Only one kind of sewing thread & one kind of serger
