In ancient Assyria, scholars wrote questions in clay about events to come, intended for divine eyes.

The god Shamash would then leave his reply in the entrails of an animal, to be read by a trained seer.

There are 300+ of these.

Only two ask Shamash to overlook that they were written by a woman.

Fun news — Shamash has awoken!

Shamash is the name of my proper big rig telescope — named after the Mesopotamian Sun God. Like Shamash, this telescope brings light from other Suns across the cosmos to us.

I’ve not used this rig in years — not even sure if everything still works!

I noticed two candles were lit, even though it's the first night. I looked it up, and learned about the Shamash.

The Shamash is the "Helper Candle", and I love how the author says that each of us have the potential to be a shamash.

Happy Hanukkah!

First night/eighth night.

Started a new thing this year; used a candle from last year as my Shamash for the first night this year. Gives me a new way to honour continuity.

Every night after the fourth night of Hanukkah that you don’t burn your hand putting the shamash into its spot on the menorah is a triumph.

shamash going out with their bestie like the old couple on the titanic
Final night of Chanukah and the candles really decided to put on a drip show (yes, the wax connected between two of them).

Yo ChatGPT I heard you like the shamash so I put an extra shamash near your shamash so you could light the shamash with your shamash

Happy first “don’t burn yourself placing the shamash” night to everyone with a man-in-the-middle menorah. 😂
