A twisting country lane that’s a pathway into history - this is sunrise at Moreton Corbet Castle, near Shawbury. I could hear linnets singing their hearts out in the tree above me as I set up my tripod in the early morning light. The original fortified house on this site was replaced... #Shropshire

Out on a deserted Shawbury Heath for the first time in 2026 this afternoon... a very respectable 28 bird species recorded, with 8 finches (including 2 brambling, and loads of Siskin), a couple of swallows, and many chiffchaff now in residence!

Along the old lanes between Moreton Corbet castle and Shawbury, an strange entity haunts, usually witnessed by daylight. The ghost is described as a 'Multicoloured Witch' who attaches herself to cars. She is said to stay with them for a mile or so before disappearing!

Progress with quince jelly for #handcraftedchristmas. 14 jars done just need labels now. I think they were darker than I had seen in some photos but I used raw sugar so that altered the colour. In addition I made 4 jars of spiced apple relish. 🙂. Off to listen to Shawbury Military Wives Choir now.
