The shops had a little bug, reptile and snake exhibit and Hiro got to pet shinglebacks, bluetongues, turtles and a python, but he backed waaaaaay back when I was holding a spiny leaf insect on my hand. It’s so great to see him have such a huge love of wildlife and animals, just like I did/do.

The previous lizard's coffee-and-cream coloration is typical of Western Australian shinglebacks. Further east, their coloration is much darker, like this beauty from Queensland.

Love shinglebacks!
Had our first bluey for years today, plus one of our resident geckos out in the day time.

Just heard about Gus Gus’ passing at Clint’s Reptiles. So sad, I’m especially sad for Clint and his family that clearly loved Gus Gus.

Loving and spoiling my girl Peanut a little extra today. She’s my favourite grumpy little sausage. ❤️🥹 #lizards #shinglebacks #pets #herpetology

Ok the Onion just did a shingleback joke. That's... rather unexpected.

(Shinglebacks are monogamous, if you don't get the context of the joke, though they don't live with their mate the whole year.)
Scientists Confirm Shingleback Lizards Only Reptiles That Mate For Sake Of Aging Mothers

Shinglebacks are on my list of animals I adore and want as a pet, but will never own 😍

those as a pet because the lizards in the area i grew up/lived in before i came to melbourne are one of the few things that i miss about living there. I also really love skinks, especially blue tounged skinks and shinglebacks. Beyond australian reptiles, I also think tegus are pretty neat and wish..

Very skinky. Big one was about 10cm long, little one was about 5cm.

I was worried the whole time I'd trigger tail loss so I didn't hold onto either for very long.

Mainly we see our big skinks, shinglebacks and blue tongues, but there's a tonne of skink diversity down here
