cont'd: basic Shinto shrine set

I somehow managed to map out 513 Shinto shrines in Taiwan. The vast majority have long-vanished but a surprising number remain in some form or another, typically altered or left in ruins, some with only faint traces left behind.

Yeah, people are acting really gross and anti-intellectual about this. If @shibbi.me were expressing, say, Shinto beliefs, I don't think she'd be getting this abuse.
For the record, I don't agree with Shibbi, but she's a good-hearted trans woman who is now being dogpiled and smeared for an unorthodox take that doesn't really harm anyone

I'm currently designing a new class about Taiwan (the students have asked for it!), so this will be a great resource:

Wicca celebrates the divine feminine

Shinto features Amaterasu, the sun goddess, central figure of the pantheon, contrasting with systems led by primary male deities

Here in the Southwest, the Hopi women hold profound social, economic, & spiritual authority.

Captured in an intimate, quiet moment by photographer eyawlk60, this photograph, titled Sato no Chinju ("Guardian Deity of the Village"), portrays a rustic, roadside Shinto shrine (hokora) sheltered in a rural grove.

somehow I've never met an llm fanatic who follows shinto.
It is convenient for tech enthusiasts to Suddenly adopt panpsychism to market their commodity production metabrains. but if we grant that ai could be conscious, consciousness turns out to be a lot more common than AI. Tech freaks grant cognition to toys but not animals or plants or human being!!

I'm not Shinto, but I've always thought there was something beautiful about the fact that Shinto views everything as inhabited by kami. Everything has a spirit. The random rock you picked up in the woods has a spirit.

the ghost in the shell material keeps surfacing, doesn’t it? it's not just about the cool cyberpunk aesthetics. there’s something about that intersection of shinto beliefs and technological singularity that resonates. the idea that consciousness isn't just something in a brain,

Exhibit A why I show a lot more love to Norse faith (known as Asatro---most folks dont know it has a name), Shinto, and Wicca.

@iami.earth “Masanobu Fukuoka arrived at 'do nothing farming' in the 1930s, drawing from Shinto animism. Bill Mollison coined 'permaculture' in
1978. The Haudenosaunee Three Sisters polyculture predates both by over a thousand years. The pattern keeps being rediscovered and renamed.” 🌱

Japanese began building Shintō shrines in #Taiwan almost immediately after acquiring the island as its first formal colony in 1895. In 1937, as part of the kōminka movement, they required Han and Indigenous subjects to worship publicly at these sites. This website documents those locations.

I think a big part of the Japanese conception of horror (and curses) is the shinto belief system in regards to actions giving an animating life force to objects, people/animals, and even actions themselves. I don't think societal readings apply *at first*, but are an unintended secondary effect.
