Fair enough.

But, is there enough hellfire and brimstone nonsense in Japan that they needed this law? Is it any part of Shinto or Buddhist teachings?

I was asked yesterday what Armenian holidays or yearly observances I observe and you know, I don't think I observe any because they're so tied up with Christianity. My observances are mostly Japanese because of my religious affiliation with Shrine Shinto.

I had to look this up:

"A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of, or within, a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred, and a spot where kami are welcomed and thought to travel through."

The Shinto ritual dance origin is honestly so beautiful — 1500 years of history and it's still going. Definitely checking that video before November 🥹 (if you get a sec, the pinned post on my page would mean the world to me)

Prepare yourself for the November Basho by learning more about Sumo, or becoming a new fan of this 1500 year old sport that started out as a Shinto ritual dance depicting a wrestling match between the gods. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo9R...

[Harae Kotoba | Behind the scenes]
We made the chanting woman no ritual figure but a villager in a pit dwelling, a home dug into the ground and roofed over. No altar, no offerings: she chants toward the morning beyond her open door, in a voice clear and carrying.

Sacred Watch At The Shrine

She does not stand alone. Old vows linger in the air, and something ancient keeps watch beside her. In this place, devotion is answered by protection.

Went to a festival at our local Shinto shrine tonight, the second year in a row we managed to attend!

Will be hopping to Korea for another 3 months soon before we're back. Prayed to the local deities that we manage to stay permanently next visit!

Wish us luck! ♡

Why is Enoshima Shrine built across an entire island in the sea? Watch to learn how the goddess Benzaiten, a legendary dragon, and a wave-battered rock explain it.

多分鎌倉の鶴岡八幡宮かな?
鶴岡八幡宮は確か神社本庁からも離脱しているので、反体制の表明するには良いセレクトだと思います
Perhaps it’s Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in Kamakura?
Since Tsurugaoka Hachimangu has, if I recall correctly, withdrawn from the Association of Shinto Shrines (Jinja Honcho), I think it’s a good choice for expressing an anti-establishment stance

I think Shinto is exactly it. Shinto has a long tradition of adolescent girls being shamans and mediums. Hearing spirits the way Joan heard the voice of God.

I wonder why Japanese media likes Joan of Arc so much. You'd think the smoke carried her all the way to Japan where she haunted a shinto shrine or something 😂

Exhibit A why I show a lot more love to Norse faith (known as Asatro---most folks dont know it has a name), Shinto, and Wicca.

I feel like kinkame's feelings about the obsidian mirrors(pun intended) a kind of colonial impulse in a very interesting way. o_o trying to digest the Other through your own belief system, the temple's apparently inviolable intentions standing in for the church's salvation, etc

Wicca celebrates the divine feminine

Shinto features Amaterasu, the sun goddess, central figure of the pantheon, contrasting with systems led by primary male deities

Here in the Southwest, the Hopi women hold profound social, economic, & spiritual authority.
