Black & white photo of assorted headstones in a cemetery at Gala Aisle in the southern Scottish town of Galashiels. The main one in the foreground has a very traditional shape, is beautifully weathered, and dappled with textured lichens. The inscription on the grave is largely worn away but some words can still faintly be made out, including “here lies…” at the top. In the background is a coppice of trees, various other burial plots and the outline of a house can just be seen in the distance behind the graveyard.
