Have you tried the SIDKick Pico 2350 version with it? Unlike the 2040, when using it in a breadbin there are no bus timing issues at all.
SIDemu will most likely work fine. He's got it so accurate that the suite of test programs I've been using think it's a real SID.

The latest SIDKick Pico revision is so beautifully simple. No level shifters, no external flash, just a microcontroller and a few passives.
Hard to believe that these two devices, built only year or so apart, do exactly the same thing.

I haven't seen that film in over 25 years. It was one of the ones I rarely watched or remebred any of the scenes or the sidkick of Governor Radclieff. The only scenes that stayed in my memoery was Meeko stealing Percy's cherries, and the riverband and color of the wind song.
