Currently reading Hopeless Necronamtic by Shiloh Briar. I am a few chapters in and loving it! Sikras is a funny, laid back necromancer but don't you dare be mean to his walking, talking skeleton brother-in-law, Benjamin, or you'll be sorry. Love the humor coming from Sikras and Benjamin. 😊

Sikra - Relentless Curiosity

Sikras have bodies covered in metal exoskeletons and razor-sharp claws on each limb, making them as much of a threat as the largest Shades. And that’s not even factoring in their surprising intelligence...

A necromancer, a demon, and a sentient skeleton make for a team of unlikely, if sometimes unwilling, heroes. Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar was a really great read!

Now time for her son, Sikras!
Adopted son of Pykras and Eramis but still treated no lesser, raised very traditional from Pykras side. When he was around 15 that’s when Eramis and Pykras split and he stepped up as big brother to his twin sisters, misses Eramis even through it all #destiny2 #eliksni
Captain Sikras of House Bonds with the fabled cat hood, angry Itzal and Chelkis at sides (Itzal purple romper Chelkis green one) Vandal son before he earned the fabled cat hood Oh wow da family

Bookcover image for Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar, image shows grey-haired and fatigued-looking necromancer Sikras, and Pink-haired, horned, half-demon Helspira. Pale green background with scattered bones and potion bottles framing the characters. Review: 5⭐️ Wonderful fantasy full of love, loss, and growth. The brotherly(er, brother-in-lawly) partnership between Sikras and Ben was so touching, humorous, and profound. Throwing Helspira into the mix sparked true found-family camaraderie. The villains were seriously villainous. The world building was great, for the terrible realm of Chthonia where Helspira escaped from, the afterlife limbo souls pass through, and where Sikras calls home and reluctantly is called again to defend from the rival necromancer. This is a low-spice story, making it rather sweet and cozy despite the battling. Thank-you, Orbit Books and Shiloh Briar, for this complimentary copy. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

the biggest challenge was modeling a *smiling* character, honestly. Pure joy is difficult to capture.

I started a Sikras model (the male MC) as well… maybe I’ll finish him one day.

So here is my main gorl
Pykras, mother to Sikras, Itzal, and Chelkis. Ex-partner of Eramis (the divorce arc is in place) Kell of her own, House Bonds. When she was but a vandal coming to earth she got her face all mauled up by cabal warbeast and still to this day she flinches at the dogs #eliksni

-Of Eramis only because Pykras became super depressed and just wanted to block every aspect of her time in Salvation because yeah she still misses Eramis terribly. Sikras tells them small things here and there but doesn’t go too into depth.

Chelkis and Itzal, twin daughters to Pykras and Eramis. I haven’t truly doodled a lot of them but I love them nonetheless, more so stuck on what to do with them as they grow. Ofc toddler them cause hell for Sikras who still likes to watch over them. They were eggs when parents split so no knowledge

A paperback advance reading copy of Hopeless Necromantic, by Shiloh Briar, has the tagline, "Who said romance was dead?" The illustration sohws a white-blond-haired necromancer with green light coming from one hand, standing back to back with a horned and pink-haired woman armed with a knife and smiling nervously. Skulls gather in every corner, along with a skeleton playing a lute and a bottle that looks like a potion. The back cover reads: Necromancy is the new Romantasy. She raises hell. He raises the dead. What could possibly go wrong? When new recruit Helspira takes on the doomed mission that no other soldier wants, life - and death - start to get a little complicated. Helspira must play escort to Sikras - a frustratingly handsome necromancer with the power to raise the dead - as he attempts a mission that he's failed twice before: stopping an undead army at the edges of the kingdom. No one thinks he will succeed. Not even Sikras. But the more time the two spend together, the more they find they can imagine a brighter future. As secrets come out and the two grow closer - and Sikras's lively skeleton companion Benjamin tries desperately not to be a third wheel - will Sikras and Helspira's changing feelings for each other be enough to overcome the growing danger? Raise a glass. Raise the dead. Just don't raise your hopes. Hopeless Necromantic is a slow burn debut romantic fantasy, perfect for fans of The Irresistible Urge to Fall for your Enemy, Long Live Evil or Assistant to the Villain. the edges of the kingdom. overcome the growing danger? Assistant to the Villain.

Thank you, Orbit, for the #gifted ARC!

Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar has amazing characters that I adored. It's also a much deeper book than I thought, in a good way.

Book Review : Hopeless Necromantic
What a title, am I right? I knew I had to read Hopeless Necromantic. From the very first page, the novel kept surprising me. I had never considered the exact pitfalls of raising someone from the dead before, which in retrospect, seems remarkably shortsighted of me. Main character Sikras “Catseye” Nikabod, who is no stranger to horrified—er, unsatisfied—customers, has it all figured out, down to the fine print.
