Uncountable generations ago, a seed or seeds from a plant in the sunflower family landed in a favorable spot on the as-yet-unpeopled #HawaiianIslands. The soil, sun & rain were adequate, the seed may have been deposited by a bird & have arrived with a little bit of its own fertilizer. #silverswords

Uncountable generations ago, a seed or seeds from a plant in the sunflower family landed in a favorable spot on the as-yet-unpeopled #HawaiianIslands. The soil, sun & rain were adequate, the seed may have been deposited by a bird & have arrived with a little bit of its own fertilizer. #silverswords

Indeed, our red dirt is famous! Same reason as Mars....most of what the island is made of is iron-rich basalt, which quickly starts to oxidize. Makes an incredible contrast w/the silver-green silverswords. It's a special place. :)
