@internetthought.bsky.social the Kattegat 2 cable is not a amplified cable like longer subsea cables normally are.
It's probably pure fiber, and if it's good quality singlemode fiber, will have no issues with its age.

Im Gegenteil, mit WLAN haben sie angefangen. Das ist immer zusammengebrochen. Kabel ist zuverlässiger — und sie verkaufen zusätzlich überteuerte Dongles, um dieses LAN auch an Handies anzuschließen. Die 1.-Klasse-Plätze haben sogar Singlemode Glasfaser mit einer Auswahl an Wellenlängen.

Can somebody elaborate on this paragraph? Sounds like they do start out with an entangled state but then destroy the entanglement. Is it clear that all entanglement is really destroyed at this point, or could there still be some other entangled degrees of freedom left?
