God yeah, that and it's painful to me how many of the sirtech wizardry games STILL aren't legally available anywhere due to licensing hell (tho the recent version of 1 is damn nice)

Speaking of Sirtech was also able to get JA2 running with the stracciatella patch

OK, I wasn't expecting that at all. Sirtech finally sold off its rights to the OG Wizardry games (I to V), while Drecom still owns 6 to 8 (& I imagine the infinite litany of Japan-developed spin-offs, too).

Also, a wild Robert Woodhead appears!

A 1994 ad for The Elder Scrolls: Arena, an action RPG by Bethesda Softworks for PCs

A vast continent became a procedurally generated playground in this incredibly ambitious RPG. Designer, Ted Peterson, recalled in a 2001 interview Wizardry's SirTech "laughing at us for thinking we could do it."

Somehow I don't think this is part of the series... 🤔 Says it's copyright 1997.

re-reading that sirtech article and damn it is wild how much things have changed since 2019 though

The Digital Eclipse remake credits Drecom's trademark rights, the ownership of the game by FRPG Corporation (a Sirotek-owned shell company), the licensing of the game to SirTech Entertainment Corp (also Sirotek-owned) by FRPG Corp, and the sublicensing of the game to Digital Eclipse from SirTech.

On this date, thirty years ago, The Elder Scrolls: Arena was released on MS-DOS PCs kicking off Bethesda Softworks' epic series!

Amidst highs and lows, the series' massive worlds drew in generations of adventurers to see just where the next quest would take them.

Happy 30th, Elder Scrolls!

it's still wild to me that the difference between origin and fucking falcom working together, or leaving that basically entirely to sirtech, was a little casual art tracing

i feel like every JA has been a criminally underrated gem tbh

(and the story of SirTech is fascinating too, albeit in a "shit like this probably will never happen again" sense)

nvm i think i'm cooking, actively trying to come up with fresh settings/ideas is cool even if it adds to the pile of projects i might never finish
thinkin something for a game along the lines of late sirtech-era wizardry because it's been a recurring thought while working on other projects
